How to Play Union Arena
Union Arena is Bandai's anime crossover trading card game: every booster covers one series, and every deck is built from a single title. This page covers the deck-building rules, how to read a card and the trigger system. For the complete game rules, use Bandai's official rules page. Then search the card database, try the deck builder or browse tournament decklists.
Official rules
Bandai's rules page has the full rulebook, comprehensive rules and the current ban list.

From Bandai's official tournament regulations:
- Exactly 50 cards in the deck.
- One title only. Every card must share the same source material code: the three letters after the slash in the card number. For
UE24BT/REZ-1-001that'sREZ(Re:Zero). - Up to 4 copies of the same card number after the slash.
UE22BT/CSM-1-049and the promoUEPR/CSM-1-049count as the same card. - At most 4 cards each with the Special, Color and Final triggers. The limit is per trigger type, so a deck can have 4 of each.
- 3 Action Point (AP) cards are prepared separately and don't count toward the 50.
- The deck must also follow the current ban and restriction list.
The deck builder on this site enforces all of these as you add cards.
2. Reading a card
- Card number
- Set code, then title code and number, e.g.
UEX08BT/BLC-4-001. The title code (BLC= Bleach) decides which deck a card can go in. - Energy
- The energy, and its color, a card needs before it can be played. Cards come in five colors: red, blue, green, yellow and purple.
- AP cost
- How many Action Points it costs to play the card.
- BP
- Battle Points, a character's strength in battle.
- Generates
- The energy a character produces, shown as color letters (
Y= 1 yellow,YY= 2 yellow). - Affinity
- Group names from the series (e.g. Stern Ritters, Black Bulls) that other cards refer to.
- Card types
- Character, Event and Site go in the deck. Action Point cards stay outside it.
3. Triggers
Many cards carry a trigger effect, marked in brackets at the start of the trigger text. There are seven trigger types. The examples below are the most common wording for each type on real cards.
[Get]- Add this card to your hand.
[Draw]- Draw a card.
[Active]- Choose one character on your field and switch it to active. It gains 3000 BP until the end of the turn.
[Raid]- Add this card to your hand, or if you have the required energy, perform Raid with it.
[Special]max 4- Choose one character on your opponent's front line and sideline it.
[Color]max 4- Play one purple character card with 2 or less required energy and 1 AP cost from your sideline set to active onto your front line.
[Final]max 4- If you have 0 life, place the top card of your deck into your life area.
4. Keywords on cards
Card text uses bracketed keywords. These come up most often, and every one is filterable on the database:
[When Played],[When Attacking],[When Blocking],[When Sidelined]: when the effect activates.[Once Per Turn],[During Your Turn]: limits on when or how often it applies.[Impact 1]: when this character attacks and wins a battle, deal 1 damage to your opponent (card reminder text).[Step]: during your movement phase, you may move this card from your front line to your energy line (card reminder text).[Raid],[Snipe],[Double Attack],[Double Block],[Nullify Impact]: see the official rules for their exact definitions.
